Last week, Gov. Ron DeSantis asked the Florida Supreme Court to impanel a statewide Grand Jury to investigate “crimes and wrongdoing committed against Floridians related to the COVID-19 vaccine.” But if the 18 grand jurors and the prosecutors who will shepherd them do an actual investigation, the governor’s request should backfire unpleasantly on him and his apparent hopes for higher political office.

On June 1, North Bay Village Mayor Brent Latham had prime lower bowl seats at London’s Wembley Stadium for the Cup of Champions, a South America versus Europe soccer match between heavyweights Argentina and Italy. The mayor’s VIP ticket came courtesy of the Argentine Football Association, or AFA, which picked up the tab for Latham to spend a week in the United Kingdom’s capital city.

The next time there’s a police-involved shooting in Florida the media may not be entitled to the name of the officer who pulled the trigger.
Reporters and the public would have to trust police and prosecutors to examine their own colleagues’ actions and, if warranted, pursue charges.
